Work Energy

About Work energy

I have spent the last four years writing and re-writing my book, Work Energy.  Rather than just teaching internet marketing tips which I feel like I do all the time, I wanted to share something more central to your success–how to accomplish goals.

I meet people on a daily basis who have goal issues–people who feel they can’t finish what they start, people who feel they can’t get ahead, people who have goals that have haunted them for years, and people who are desperate to achieve the goal of providing a better income for their families.

This book is for you, and it will land on the ultimate goal day of the year–January first.

“Once you understand the work energy formula, you’ll have a
fire in your bones that you can turn on and wield as a weapon against any goal before you.”

-Jim Harmer

WHATS INSIDE

Chapter 1

Cold Fish Sticks

“To each there comes in their lifetime a special moment when they are figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a very special thing, unique to them and fitted to their talents. What a tragedy if that moment finds them unprepared or unqualified for that which could have been their finest hour.”
—Sir Winston Churchill

If on July 7, 2009, at around midnight, you would have driven down Pine Ridge Road in Naples, Florida, and stopped in at the dollar store, you would have found me in the back wearing a ragged apron, with headphones in and paper cuts on a couple fingers, as I stocked the shelves for nearly minimum wage. It was the only job I could get. I had a newly minted bachelor’s degree on the wall, yet I was stocking shelves for a few dollars per hour.

Every night after work I came home around 3 a.m., frustrated to no end, feeling like an abject failure, and fell on my knees. My prayers mostly went like this in those days:

“Please make this come to an end. I need a better job so I can take care of Emily and the baby. Amen.”

Improving our situation was about the only thing I could focus on (although, in retrospect, I wish I would have relaxed a bit and taken my family to the Florida beaches more often). Maybe your goals have felt like that. There are some things you easily accomplish, but there are others that seem to haunt you. Goals that always seem outside your grasp. Problems that you know you need to solve but that your best efforts never do. I’ve been there, and this story will help you to know how to change it.

It was in these days that I learned what “soul-grinding work” felt like.  I despised every instant of work at the dollar store. I remember being so transfixed on how inefficient the system of getting the product on the shelves was that I could barely pay attention to my work.

I’m not from Florida. Emily and I had been married for two years. Our son, Ruger, was still such a little baby that he couldn’t even roll over yet. Just a few months before this dollar store torture began we had lived in rural Idaho.

About the author

Jim Harmer is a well-known internet entrepreneur and co-founder of Income School. His sites and Youtube videos have been viewed tens of millions of times.

I live in small town Star, Idaho with my awesome wife, Emily, and my three kids Ruger, Cole, and Faith.  I’m only about ten minutes away from Income School’s offices, so it makes for a short commute, although I do miss the years of working from home.

When I’m not creating content for Youtube, I’m traveling with my family.  We’ve been to many far-flung countries and been fortunate enough to be able to see much of the world.  People always ask me what country I liked best, and the answer is unquestionably EGYPT!  I went with my two boys and it was the coolest experience of my life.  I love seeing my kids learn from each culture they experience.  When we’re in Idaho, we love spending time outdoors.  We fish, hunt, shoot, camp, ride side-by-sides, and live the typical country life.
